A creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip baked with a gooey cheese topping and decorated with a sour cream spiderweb. Perfect for Halloween parties, game days, or any gathering where you want a fun, crowd-pleasing appetizer that looks impressive but is surprisingly easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken recommended)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup sour cream (for the spiderweb)
  • Black olives (optional, for spider garnish)
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, or crusty bread (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Soften the cream cheese if needed (microwave in 10-second bursts until pliable).
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, 1 cup sour cream, buffalo wing sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth and well-combined.
  4. Fold in the shredded chicken, 1 cup mozzarella, and 1/2 cup cheddar until evenly distributed.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9-inch pie dish or small baking dish and spread into an even layer.
  6. Top with remaining 1 cup mozzarella and 1/2 cup cheddar.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden around the edges. Optionally broil for 1-2 minutes for deeper color.
  8. Let the dip rest for 5 minutes.
  9. While resting, spoon 1/3 cup sour cream into a small zip-top bag, seal, and snip a tiny corner. Pipe a spiral from the center outward, then use a toothpick to drag lines from center to edge to create a web effect.
  10. Optionally garnish with black olive spiders.
  11. Serve immediately with chips, veggies, or bread.

Notes

Don’t overbake or the cream cheese may separate. Room temperature ingredients blend more smoothly. For make-ahead, assemble without spiderweb, refrigerate, then bake straight from fridge adding 5-10 minutes. Full-fat dairy works best for texture. The spiderweb is easiest with thick sour cream; thin sour cream can be thickened with cornstarch.
