A visually striking and delicious charcuterie board inspired by the Fourth of July, featuring red, white, and blue elements arranged in stars and stripes for a festive summer celebration.

Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • Red bell peppers, sliced into thin strips
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Dry cured salami or pepperoni, thinly sliced
  • Sharp white cheddar cheese, sliced and cut into star shapes
  • String cheese or mozzarella sticks, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Cream cheese, softened
  • Almonds or cashews, lightly toasted (optional)
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Blue corn tortilla chips or blue corn crackers
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs
  • Honey or fig jam
  • Olives, preferably green or black

Instructions

  1. Slice the white cheddar into about 1/4-inch thick slabs and use star cookie cutters to cut out star shapes. Slice string cheese into 1- to 2-inch pieces. Set aside.
  2. Arrange thin slices of salami or pepperoni on a plate, folding some into small rolls. Aim for about 3.5 oz of meat per person.
  3. Rinse strawberries, hull, and slice lengthwise. Halve cherry tomatoes. Slice red bell peppers into thin strips about 1/4-inch wide.
  4. Place the star-shaped cheddar stars toward one corner of the board as the blue star field. Surround with a small cluster of blueberries.
  5. Create stripes by alternating rows of red bell pepper strips and white string cheese pieces across the board. Fill gaps with cherry tomatoes and salami slices.
  6. Fill empty spaces with blue corn chips and almonds or cashews to balance the board.
  7. Add small bowls or ramekins of honey or fig jam and olives near the edges for dipping or spreading.
  8. Garnish with sprigs of rosemary or thyme for aroma and a touch of green.
  9. Adjust the arrangement to clearly represent stars and stripes with neat color blocks and shapes.

Notes

Let cheeses sit out for about 15 minutes before cutting to avoid crumbling. Pat fruit dry to prevent sogginess. Use cookie cutters gently with a rocking motion to avoid crushing cheese. Assemble about 30 minutes before serving for best flavor and texture. For gluten-free, use blue corn tortilla chips instead of crackers. For vegetarian, omit meats and add more nuts or marinated artichokes. Dairy-free substitutions include plant-based cheeses and hummus or guacamole instead of cream cheese.
