These red white and blue jello shot cups are a festive, crowd-pleasing treat perfect for patriotic celebrations. They feature vibrant layered colors with a balanced flavor and a fun, easy preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry or cherry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold water, divided (½ cup boiling, ½ cup cold)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry or berry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka
  • Small clear plastic or glass cups (2 oz / 60 ml size)
  • Optional: whipped cream or mini stars sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the red layer: In a mixing bowl, dissolve the red gelatin powder in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Stir thoroughly until fully dissolved. Let it cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add vodka: Stir in ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka gently. Pour about 1 inch (25 ml) of the red mixture into each shot cup. Place the cups in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to firm up but not fully set (they should be slightly tacky, not liquid).
  3. Prepare the white layer: Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over ½ cup (120 ml) cold water and let it bloom for 5 minutes. Warm ½ cup (120 ml) boiling water and stir into the gelatin until dissolved.
  4. Mix the creamy white: Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and ½ cup (120 ml) vodka until smooth. Let the mixture cool to room temperature (about 10 minutes) to avoid melting the red layer when pouring.
  5. Layer the white: Carefully spoon or pour the white mixture over the red layer in each cup, filling another 1 inch (25 ml). Return to the refrigerator for another 30 minutes to set gently.
  6. Make the blue layer: Dissolve blue gelatin powder in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water, stir thoroughly, then add ½ cup (120 ml) vodka. Let cool slightly.
  7. Finish layering: Pour the blue mixture over the white layer to fill the cups nearly to the top. Chill for at least 1 hour or until fully set.
  8. Serve or garnish: Optionally top with a dollop of whipped cream and a few edible star sprinkles for that extra festive touch.

Notes

Let each gelatin layer partially set before adding the next to keep layers distinct and prevent mixing. Use cold vodka for a cleaner taste and measure alcohol carefully to ensure gelatin sets properly. For non-alcoholic versions, substitute vodka with lemon-lime soda or sparkling water. Dairy-free white layer can be made with coconut cream and sugar instead of sweetened condensed milk.
